Your first semester as a 1L will probably be the busiest time of your life. Even if you have free time, you may be exhausted or have a mountain of reading to tackle. In law school, taking breaks is important to avoid burnout, but there will always be something you could spend your time on.
So what can you do? Law students should explain to their family and friends how busy they will be until they have completed their finals. Setting ground rules now for texting and phone calls will help make sure no one is counting on you to respond to every little thing. Feel free to turn off your phone throughout most of the day. And plan a celebration for after finals so you have something to look forward to with everyone.
